Belarusian cuisine

We know very little about Belarusian cuisine, often mistaking it as an integral part of Russian cuisine. But this is a very interesting, original cuisine, which was influenced not only by climatic conditions, class differences, but also by neighboring peoples - Ukrainians, Poles, Lithuanians, Russians. The Belarusian cuisine of the eastern part of the country differs from the western cuisine, since these parts of the country were isolated from each other for a long time.

The most famous dishes of Belarusian cuisine are associated with potatoes. Delicious, crumbly potato varieties with a high starch content are grown in Belarus - that is why real Belarusian potato pancakes do not need additional flour.

The Belarusian cuisine is famous for its meat products and meat dishes, mainly pork. Animal fat and butter are widely used for the preparation of various dishes.

Interestingly, there was practically no wheat flour in traditional Belarusian cuisine. But the so-called "black" flour was widely used: oatmeal, rye, barley, buckwheat and pea flour, and they were never mixed in one dish. It is also not customary to mix various vegetables, the dish is prepared from only one type: cabbage, peas, beans, carrots or potatoes.

Perhaps it is worth getting to know the dishes of Belarusian cuisine better!
