Based on "Herring under a fur coat"

New Year's without the beloved "Herring under a fur coat" is not New Year's, but I wanted to dream up a little and change layers. Now the fish is not inside the "fur coat", but outside.

Based on "Herring under a fur coat"
  • large sprat 150 g
  • beets 1 pc.
  • potatoes 2 pcs.
  • onion 1 pc.
  • carrots 1 pc.
  • vinegar 1 tbsp
  • salt 1 tsp
  • sugar 1 tsp.


Step 1
Boil beets, potatoes, carrots, peel, cut into small cubes. Marinate the onion, for this cut it into half rings, put it in a bowl, add salt, sugar, vinegar and pour boiling water over it. Leave the onion for an hour. Choose a large sprat of approximately the same length, tear off the head, remove the insides, press the ridge with your thumb from the side of the abdomen and, as it were, flatten the fish, after this manipulation, the ridge is easily separated, do not forget to remove the fin from the back.
Step 2
Put chopped vegetables in layers in the forming ring: potatoes, beets, pickled onions, carrots, potatoes, beets. Grease each layer with Maheev mayonnaise. After the first layer, or after the first two layers (as you like) with a rounded knife (or the other end of the fork, if it is rectangular and thin), move the layer with vegetables slightly from the forming ring and insert our sprat with the tail up. Squeeze the layers with a fork so that the salad, after removing the ring, keeps its shape well.
Step 3
The forming ring can be easily removed along the sprat. Decorate on top as desired.
