Texas hash
This dish should not be confused with khash, a Caucasian soup made from beef tripe and legs. In English-speaking countries, this is the name for meals made from chopped meat and vegetables. Generally speaking, the English verb hush is translated as "crumbling".
Ingredients
- 100 g long grain rice
- 450 g ground beef
- 3 large onions
- 1 sweet green pepper
- 400 g chopped tomatoes in their own juice
- 100 g cheddar cheese
- a small bunch of green onions
- 60 g vegetable oil
- 9 g ground chili
- salt
- freshly ground black pepper
STEP-BY-STEP COOKING RECIPE
Step 1
Rinse the rice thoroughly, cover with cold water and leave for 2 hours, then fold on a sieve. Peel the onions, cut into thin half rings and fry over medium heat in heated oil until golden brown, 7-10 minutes. Increase heat, add minced meat and cook, kneading the lumps with a fork, until meat changes color, about 5 minutes.
Step 2
Cut the pepper into small cubes, remove the core, add to the minced meat, put the tomatoes, juice and rice. Season with salt and chili and mix thoroughly.
Step 3
Transfer the mixture to a lightly oiled baking dish, cover with a sheet of foil and place in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and continue cooking for another 15 minutes.
Step 4
Cut the green onions into thin rings, grate the cheese. Place the hash on a platter, sprinkle with onions and cheese and serve immediately.
