Stewed pork with vegetables

Muchkalitsa (leskovachka muchkalitsa), or pork stewed with vegetables, is a popular folk dish. The difference between Mukhalitsa and any other meat stew is that the meat is first fried on the grill, and then stewed along with a vegetable side dish. Like any national hit, there are a lot of options for making muckalitsa, but the most popular is from the city of Leskovac, where the best variety of sweet pepper, known throughout Serbia, is grown.

Stewed pork with vegetables
Ingredients
  • 800 g pork neck pulp
  • 3 sweet peppers (red and green, or only red)
  • 2 onions
  • 4 medium ripe tomatoes
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 200 ml dry white wine
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • salt pepper

STEP-BY-STEP COOKING RECIPE

Step 1
Remove veins and blood from the meat and cut into small cubes.
Step 2
Fry the meat in a well-heated skillet or grill on all sides until golden brown, 7 minutes. Grease a frying pan or grill with oil - but just a little, just so that the meat does not fry.
Step 3
In a large, thick-walled saucepan, heat some vegetable oil, add finely chopped onions and fry until slightly golden. Add the thick strips of pepper, the tomatoes, the chopped garlic, and cook for another 7-8 minutes, until the vegetables are tender.
Step 4
Serve hot, but the muffin is good the next day, reheated.
